A Defiled Heart

Hi all.

Today we are still on the theme of guarding your heart. If you have not read the previous post please do so that you are up to speed with us.

Dont forget to grab your bible and notepad as you go through today's post.....Ready???? Leggo

A heart defiled is like a stationary river that daily receives dirty water; debris, logs and all dumped items and keeps them. It continues to swell in junk and cannot be productively utilized. No life is possible there. Fish and all water life dies.
It is important for you to note that there is a continuous battle for your heart or soul. There are many forces that wrestle for the control/influence of your heart. The word says "He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls" (Proverbs 25:28).

Let us look at some of the forces that fight for our hearts:

i.                    The devil: He has spoken to many to say our God is not able, he is not willing, he is not dependable and he cannot be trusted. But the bible clearly identifies him as a murderer, a thief, a liar and father of all lies. (John 8:44, John 10:10). Don’t listen to him

ii.                  Circumstances and experiences: Never approach God based on your experiences or somebody else’s experiences. They are normally misleading. Lets endeavor to take God at his word, not at the neighbor’s experiences. Its good to know the God of Pst Mk but He desires to have a relationship with you as well. Take time to know what His word says and cultivate your own experiences with Him

iii.                People, news and media: All these would be more than glad to rubbish the ability of God in your life. They all generally conspire to convince your soul that there is no hope in the living God! Whose report will you believe?(Psalm 1 has awesome advice about this so does Joshua 1). The word says faith comes by hearing, and further says that the hearing should be the word of God, careful what you are hearing.

Some may wonder why we are talking about a pure heart, let me give you a few tidbits of knowledge about the importance of the state of your heart

Did You Know?????

1. That a pure heart is what God seeks:
But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him [to be] captain over his people, because thou hast not kept [that] which the LORD commanded thee.” (I Sam 13:14)

Here Saul loses the kingdom because of a defiled heart. David gains the kingdom only on one strength – he has a pure or perfect heart! Wow!

In Luke 12:32, we learn that is our father’s good pleasure to give us the kingdom! Maybe we need to sort out our hearts and we will see more of this scripture fulfilled.

In John 4:23, the bible says, God seeks people of true heart to worship him! So God’s eye are moving about to show himself strong on behalf of the righteous! Wow wow wow! We thought we sought to be blessed, little did we realize that God is also seeking to bless us.

2. An impure heart hinders from receiving anything from God
“… Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. 15 Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it. Mark 10:13-16
A defiled heart cannot believe God. It cannot hope in god and it cannot see God.
Matthew 5:8, tells us that the pure in heart will see God. Which means the impure cannot see Him.
Hebrews 10:22,23 tells us that we need a pure heart to hold up the profession of our faith
I Peter 1:22 – we need a pure heart to truly love one another.

Titus 1:15 – all things are pure to the pure heart. But to the defiled, nothing is pure.
This means you may not be able to believe even the simplest principles of God’s work.

This is why we have the most fervent critics at church. When the pastors talk giving and tithing, impure hearts reject and critique. When they speak healing, holiness, faith and any other subjects, the people who have not circumcised their hearts will always have adequate ground to challenge, reason out and dismiss the word of God.

Eventually they become frustrated Christians and drag along in disgust!

I do hope the importance of guarding your heart is becoming more evident......

  1. Saul was after the kingdom(wealth & status) but David was after the King(God). "Because God has made us for Himself, our hearts are restless until they rest in Him"—St. Augustine
